We at the Eco Lodge started observing the amazing world of birding, a few year ago, thanks to Mrs. Willow Zuchowski a wonderful lady, author of the book Tropical Plants of Costa Rica. That on her visit to our lodge, she gave us as gift the book “The Birds of Costa Rica” by Richard Garrigues and Robert Dean.
We knew that in our lodge inhabit a great variety of birds, but we never try to identify them before, because we did not have any guide as a tool.
I’m Alfonso Agustin Llanes the owner of the Lodge, and by now I have gained the basic skill to identify the birds around our Lodge. I started my birds list, listing only the birds I identify for sure. I still have dough when identifying the small seedeaters, warblers, flycatchers and the like.
My first list was identified between August and October of 2008. Birds name in red were identified between October and November 2008. Birds in blue identified by Sylvia and Bela Babus on their vacation December 2008, birds in Brown added up to April of 2009, birds in bold blue up to October 2009, birds in bold brown up to January 2010, and birds in bold black uot yo march 1, 2010.
We ask our birds friends to help us identify and correct us if we have made mistake in naming the birds in my pictures. I’m trying to make a picture/guide/log of the birds around our place. It will be called: The Birds of Montecristo” or the Birds of Rio San Juan, Nicaragua
Please enjoy and respect nature while traveling, and try to go green.
Best Regards,
Agustin Llanes
