Montecristo: The famous Tarpon Camp of Rio San Juan
The San Juan River in Nicaragua host a great
number of non migrant tarpon, they stay around the
whole year, is a fishermen paradise. Great scenery,
lots of birds in a jungle river setting.

We are located in the rain forest of the Rio San
Juan, at the entrance of Reserva Silvestre Privada
Montecristo and close to the national reserve
Indio-Maiz.

The fishing camp is very private; operate with only
4 cabins for about 8 anglers at the time. Is secluded
from neighbors inside 4 acres of garden, is the
ideal place for a jungle river adventure.

The Lodge is off the grid, have its own solar power
system and its own water well and septic tanks. Of
typical Nicaraguan jungle river rustic construction,
with basic amenities, all room have private
bathroom and screen windows.

The Camp is family operated, you must contact Mr.
Agustin Llanes, the men in charge, he lives with his
family year round, he is a Nicaraguan-American
citizen with 19 year of experience in the river.

Best fishing months:  September, October ,
November, December, January, February and
March.
Equipment: Medium to heavy road with 20 to 40
pound line, and 100 # leder.
Medium bait casting, spinning reel as well as
trolling reels.

Sport fishing for tarpon should be good the whole season as late as
April 2020, like the past few year we are getting more angles coming
to our water to try to battle one of this giant tarpon and this year,
fishing on our river has ben channels.

Montecristo River Lodge offer affordable all inclusive tarpon fishing
package that start at $450.00 per person for a 3 night, 2 full days  of
fishing, two anglers per boat. Fishing days of 8 hours.

current and the water is
not clear. It is verry
difiicult for most fly
fishermen. But you are

Solentiname island on lake Nicaragua and on the river in San
Carlos, Boca de Sabalos and el Castillo. Soon we will be in Gray
town or San Juan de Nicaragua on the Caribbean.

is less than 7 miles from the Costa Rican border. You either
come via Costa Rica or via Managua, Nicaragua.
